After arriving to New York, Deganit Shemy gathered a group of five core dancers to form Deganit Shemy & Company.
Deganit Shemy received a space grant from 2005-2007 at 92nd St Y and artist residencies at Movement Research and Dance New Amsterdam. Through these residencies, the company was able to create and perform "Dualog" and "Queentet".
In 2006 Deganit Shemy & Company progressed, by audience vote, to the last round of artists in The A.W.A.R.D. Show at Joyce SoHo. In the beginning of 2007, the company went on to perform "Queentet" in Fresh Tracks at Dance Theater Workshop and "Iodine (Yod)", the beginning of an evening length work, developed in residency at Tribeca Performing Arts Center and Dance Theater Workshop . Carla Peterson then invited the company to perform an excerpt of "Queen-tet" at Dance Theater Workshop's Gala at The Joyce in May, 2007.
On September 24, Deganit Shemy & Company will hold a fundraising gala, performing short site-specific installations at "For Your Imagination", a gallery space in Chelsea. This gala's focus is to help raise money for their dancers.
The Company was invited by the art center P.S. 122 Performance Space 122, 150 First Avenue New York, NY 10009, to perform the piece IODINE (YOD) in a full length evening. Performance dates: January 29th, 2008, Association of Performance Arts Presenters (APAP), February 6th-10th 2008. |
